President Museveni is expected to grace the 26th FIDIC-GAMA 2019 International Infrastructure Conference in Kampala.
The conference, organized by the Uganda Association of Consulting Engineers (UACE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Works and Transport, will be held at the Kampala Serena Hotel from May 12th to 14th 2019. UACE was in 1993 recognised by the Government of Uganda as the representative of the global International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) in Uganda. Group of Africa Member Associations (GAMA), the FIDIC Africa Chapter organizes annual international conferences on rotational basis from one African country to the other. Last year the event was held in Bamako – Mali while next year it will be held in Botswana.
This year Uganda has the privilege of hosting it again for the third time in 15 years. “Our aim is to bring together consulting engineers and other related infrastructure professionals, contractors, construction material/equipment suppliers, project developers, funders, legal practitioners, bankers, insurers and industry leaders to share knowledge and experiences for economic development of society through infrastructure” said Eng. Michael Daka – a key member of the Organizing Committee.
According to Eng. Daka, the theme for this year’s conference is The Role of Consulting Engineers in driving growth in African Economies. “Over 250 participants are expected from Uganda, South Africa, Tanzania, Mali, Botswana, Kenya, Zambia, Togo, DRC, Ghana, Korea, Tunisia, Nigeria, Cape Verde, United Kingdom, Italy, Sudan, South Sudan and Mozambique. The delegates will be treated to an assortment of thematic papers on Infrastructure and Economic Growth from close to 20 professionals from different countries,” he said. The anchor speakers will be Prof. P.L.O Lumumba from Nairobi, Kenya and Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba.
“Those who will attend will get enhanced knowledge of the interface between infrastructure and economic development and also get opportunity to start and develop strong and viable business partnerships for trending EPC-Turnkey Projects. As for young and practising engineers, this is a good contributor to Continuous Professional Development on the career path” he revealed.
