Concerned citizens petition Kadaga over re-probing BOU by COSASE

A group of 100 concerned Uganda citizens have petitioned the speaker of parliament, Rebecca Kadaga to ban parliament’s new committee on commissions, statuary authorities and state enterprises (COSASE) from re-investigating Bank of Uganda especially on the shs 478 billion that the central bank official failed to account for during the first probe carried out under Abdu Katuntu as chairperson.
The group led by Kakulu Sam Brian, a student pursuing B.A and Law at Uganda Christian university says the new chairperson of COSASE, Honorable Mubaraka Munyagwa is trying to play on the minds of fellow legislators, to give DR. Loius Kasekende chance to table accountability of shs 478 billion which BOU failed to account for in the first.
The petition also demanding the speaker to fire Mubaraka Munyagwa from the chairmanship of COSASE if he has started to connive with BOU officials to bring back the investigations instead of implementing the recommendations made by Abdu Katuntu’s investigations.
Early this week, the committee chairman, Mubaraka Munyagawa re-opened the probe into BOU’s closure of Crane bank limited and established a sub committee to carry the task.

This year, COSASE chaired by Katuntu released a damning report on the operations of Bank of Uganda with regard to the closure of seven banks.

COSASE pinned former Director Commercial Banking, Benedict Sekabira and former Executive Director Justine Bagyenda as people who had conflict of interest in some of the transactions to close the banks.

The committee also recommended that the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola immediately seizes all land titles in possession of city lawyer Kakembo Katende and a loan collection company for the five defunct banks.
