Makerere University: 39 law students get government scholarships

Makerere University has admitted 39 students on the government sponsorship programme to study bachelor of laws degree in next academic year. Topping the list are four students, one from St Mary’s Kitende and two from St Joseph SS Naggalama and one from Mt St Mary’s Namagunga. All the students, except four, admitted for the programme come from schools in and around Kampala. The four are from Bweranyangi Girls’ Secondary School in Bushenyi District in the Western Region, two from Immaculate Heart Girls’ Secondary School, in Nyakibale also in Western Uganda…

Medical workers’ salaries to be increased

Doctors’ salaries are to be increased in the next financial year, according to the health minister, Jane Ruth Aceng, as she delivered a statement on the Health sector performance in line with the NRM manifesto 2016-2021. According to the revised salary scale, a senior consultant currently earning sh3,447,065 will earn sh4,500,000, a consultant currently earning sh3,059,079 will earn sh4,200,000, an enrolled nurse currently earning sh413,158 will earn sh613,158. A forensic audit into BOU cites irregularities in the liquidation and selling off of commercial banks

A forensic audit report by the Auditor General has cited irregularities in the liquidation and selling off of five commercial banks by Bank of Uganda (BoU) sincw  1993. The draft report seen shows that at least Shs23b from the sale of only Global Trust Bank (GTB) is unaccounted for, 25 land titles are missing, and customer loans inherited from closed banks were sold at an undervalued rate.
